Ideas are for use. Like children, after you help them to develop, you let them go to make their own way in the world and return to you--transformed. The ideas in this Web site, as with all our work, are intended for use. Try them out, use them freely, add to and enhance them, and share them with others in turn.

Credit. We believe that acknowledging credit and precedent are vital to the free flow and development of good ideas and sound practices. We always try to cite sources and grant credit for ideas and inspiration. That's why you'll find extensive reference lists in most of our publications. In turn, we appreciate being credited and referenced wherever credit is due.

Novelty. Usage-centered design did not spring from a vacuum, but we did coin the phrase "usage-centered design," developed many of its core concepts and techniques, and pioneered its practice. In case any one asks, yes, we invented essential use cases and believe we were the first to publish the idea of abstraction and intention as keys to better use cases. (See the bibliography on use cases.)

Questions? Ideas? Problems? We want forUse.com and its contents to be useful and usable. So, if you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us . We try to assure the accuracy and completeness of information on this site but, of course, cannot make any guarantees. Definitely let us know if you have problems.

Links. We encourage links to our site and to any and all of the material in it. If you want to link to material published as Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) files, we ask that you link instead to the HTML page that points to it, not directly to the .PDF file itself.  (For articles, papers, presentations, and templates, just link to the "catalog" page that has the same name as the .PDF file, but with an .htm extension.) And if you do link to us, please let us know so we can thank you and reciprocate where appropriate.

Privacy. We respect your privacy, so our policy is simple. Our mailing and emailing lists are not sold or given to others. When we solicit or accept your postal or email addresses or other personal or business details, we use them strictly for the stated business purposes.
