The text of the Holtzblatt Proposal, the message that started something good:

Friends- I woke up today and thought that we have the power to spread a powerful word and stimulate positive action by using our own networks and our technology. I have selected you for this mailing because I know that you all have powerful networks. I am sending this to everyone on our mailing list and to every community list I know. I am asking you to read my letter below and support me in using our technology to make a wave of affirmation throughout the world. Lets see what the power of the global community really is.

Thank you and in love,

Friends,

What is the everyday person's response to the attack on our country and way of life? Fear? Anger? A sense of hopelessness? A sense of powerlessness and the inability to act.

But this country that is committed to individual freedom, to the possibility of prosperity and safety for all, whether we do it well or badly, was founded and built by the actions of everyday people. This is not a time to
pull in and wait for "them" to do something. This is not a time to see how "the economy" that faceless entity that is effected by "consumer confidence" will respond. We are "them." We are in and run the businesses; we invest; we buy. We can by our actions make a statement about our way of life. And if we all do it together, we can move ourselves forward in a time of despair.

This is my commitment:

* When the stock exchange opens I will buy stock, I will buy in a company I believe in;
* I will commit people and money to an advanced development project that will create a product or service that will improve people's lives;
* I will watch my spending but I will not cut back on silly things so that my employees can't do their jobs;
* I will encourage my company and my clients to put down petty resentments and disagreements and cooperate to improve what we make and how we work;
and I will transcend my own differences with others;
* I will invest in a charity that helps people less fortunate get a livelihood;
* And I will go buy something fun that I have wanted, to affirm my safety, security and joy in living.

We can be angry that "our country" "our systems" did not know about these terrorists before it all happened. But we didn't know, in part, because we live in a country that does not operate in fear; that does not track the
individual actions of individual people. I do not want to lose that. And I do not want to lose the hope and joy of everyday life.

Join me in my commitment. We are sitting on top of the largest community of humanity in the world. We all are connected by email. We belong to organizations and companies. We have access to others with their own
networks. Send this mail and attach your signature or write one of your own. Post it on your web sites. Put out a press release. Let us show by our actions and our voice that the power is truly with the people.
